What Would You Do With the Jew?

Western intellectuals like to think themselves more sophisticated than to believe in ancient promises of blessings and curses as written in Scripture. Put that in a child’s fairy tale, a novel or a movie, and it may make for an exciting plot. But let’s not allow such to actually frame our thinking in the real world. While most people do believe there is a God, some intelligent being “out there” somewhere, the idea that He is directly involved in our daily lives runs afoul of our arrogant, self-centered belief that we are ‘the captains of our destiny’.

One of the attributes of our amazing God is that He is ‘unchanging.’ After all, if He is the God described in the Bible, with no beginning and no end, then His absolute perfection negates the possibility of any reason to change.

So, when He makes a promise, a covenant with His creation, we should understand that He will follow through. Time is not an issue to a God Who lives outside of time. As long as there is another day His promises hold constant.

When He established His covenant with Abraham, guaranteed by His own Name, He made clear that He would oversee his progeny to the end of time – and beyond.

“I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” [Genesis 12:3 NIV]

We ignore this at our own peril!

We certainly know that the last phrase in this verse refers to the entrance of Immanuel (God With Us) through the lineage of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and David. The most wonderful gift of our Father God – His Son, Jesus – is a laser-like light breaking through the darkness.

And the first two points, blessings and curses, are getting more play today than ever in the history of the world. The reason for that is the 1948 Miracle of the re-establishment of the nation Israel in its traditional land as promised by the original and reigning owner – Almighty God

For its part, the USA has not been the bastion of support one might expect of this tiny nation. Although we could say we ultimately played an important role in the final establishment of Israel, we certainly failed in many ways – from several of our Presidents down to the man in the street.

A succinct presentation that points out the direct link between US Presidents and their support of Israel, or lack thereof, and the resulting blessings or curses, was researched and presented by Jan Markell, founder of Olive Tree Ministries. You can listen to a synopsis of her full presentation [U.S. Presidents & Israel: A Blessing or a Cursing?] at

But what about you and I? Followers of The Way are slaves of our Master, Who very clearly is a Jew. That point alone makes Christian Anti-Semitism an oxy-moronic position of the highest order!

We live in a period of time unlike any since Jesus walked this earth. In fact, the fast track of prophecy fulfillment really began at the beginning of the twentieth century. By the year 1900 many Christians were discounting Bible prophecies, or re-analyzing them in an attempt to make sense of the “tardiness” of God.

The Balfour Declaration was a letter transmitted to Chaim Weitzman, head of the Zionist movement, in 1917. It was precipitated by the fact that the war effort was completely bogged down. Something had to change if there were to be an end to the conflict and, potentially, a victor. The declaration basically promised that the British government would work toward the creation of a homeland for the Jews in Palestine. Thirty-one years later Israel was born; and Harry Truman proudly announced the USA as the first nation to formally recognize it. A day later the combined Arab states attacked Israel. They failed – Genesis 12:3.

Dr. David Reagan, a Biblical prophecy expert and founder of Lamb & Lion Ministries, has made the following insightful statement regarding the nation of Israel:

“WWI prepared the land for the people. WWII prepared the people for the land “

God works in mysterious ways, as many will agree. But, more importantly for us to grasp is that God is at work. His plan for His Creation is set in stone. It will be accomplished!

Working with, or supporting the works of the anti-Semitic, is not an option for Christians. In fact, it is not a viable option for any nation. It is quite literally playing with fire. The Two-State solution, being pushed by the White House, is not a solution. It is like hoping a rock will turn into a loaf of bread. The Israeli leadership would be committing national suicide by giving up any more of their currently occupied land to the Palestinians. The oft stated position of the Palestinian leadership is the complete annihilation of the Jews. The PLO and Hamas are splintered groups with regard to their thirst for power, but blood brothers in the fight to destroy Israel. Lebanon based Hezbollah, puppets of their Iranian masters, at this very moment are staging Iranian short-range missiles aimed at Israeli population centers and strategic targets. The mission of these two renegade groups – to destroy Israel – has not – WILL NOT – change.

Many people will say, ‘If God would just show me a miracle I would believe Him.’ Perhaps the greatest miracle in recent centuries is the re-gathering of the Jews and the re-establishment of the nation Israel. No people, tribe or nation has ever come back from so complete a ‘diaspora’ as have the Jews. And that after nearly 2000 years. God alone has the power to accomplish such a thing!

Three thousand years ago King David wrote a song that is directed toward us in this present crisis:

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May those who love you be secure.”” [Psalm 122:6 NIV]

We know that this will not come to pass in our present world. The fulfillment of this prayer will be when Jesus sets foot on the Mount of Olives.

Watch Jerusalem. Watch Israel. As goes this little nation, so goes the future of the world.

Write your Congressional delegation. Demand that they stop playing games and press the Administration to support Israel: in the UN; in Trade Agreements; in military technology and hardware. Our staunchest ally in a region exploding with violence and anti-Christian hatred is being hammered by Western leadership for defending itself.

Show your support in your local environment. Do not sit on your hands when you see anti-Semitism played out among friends, in your schools and universities, in your town councils, in your market place.

Which side do you want to be associated with when Jesus looks you in the eye and asks, “Did you support My people Israel?”

Where Would We Be?

Post WWII generations have developed a strange double-mindedness. In the first place, the past is viewed as easier times, less stress, simpler lifestyles and peace in our land. A time we wish we could recreate. Radio, television and movie producers drill deep to find stories that link back to that period of time, while biasing them by what we think should, or could, have happened rather than the reality of what actually happened.

We forget the racial confrontations of the 50’s and 60’s, the era of horrific assassinations, and airline high-jacking’s that seemed to scream at us from the daily newspapers and nightly news programs.

Then, on the other hand, we are consumed with the products of technology that inundate our world of today. Each new advancement tries to draw us into its web. We must have the latest ‘this or that.’ Baby boomers have one view of all this; millennials have quite another. Boomers watched these developments come to pass. Millennials grew up with it as a way of life.

“My heart was restless until it found its rest in Thee” – Augustine of Hippo

So, what’s my point?

Before He returned to His rightful place with His Father God, Jesus laid out a simple plan. Go, make disciples, and baptize them. What tools, education, provision, etc, did He base this directive?

“Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” [Mat 28:18 NIV]

ALL Authority! Over the earth! Over the entire universe! Every thing. Every person. Nothing more is needed.

After the “baptize them” is done, what happens? Why would such an important task as spreading God’s Good News to the whole world be handed off to mere mortals? The world these followers of The Way were reborn into was not pretty – and certainly not friendly to them.

With that same authority given Jesus, the Christian is imbued with power, by the Holy Spirit of Christ living within. Since the first century, through their living example of Jesus and their actions inspired by the Love of Jesus, followers of The Way have changed societies around the world.

No man made religion has had the profound effect that Christianity has had. Think about it. Jesus reestablished the position of the woman as He had originally created them – equal to man in every aspect of worth, yet different in purpose. Children, who were considered mere chattels, property, by the “highly intelligent” Greeks and Romans, as well as the previous civilizations (excepting the Jews), since the Great Flood, elevated to full personhood (from conception). First generation Christians began rescuing infants left to die of exposure by birth parents who decided they were not convenient, as well as the many sold into sex slavery in the pagan temples.

Slavery, a common and accepted fact of life, is an affront to God for the reasons stated above. Every human is equal in God’s eyes, and created higher than the animal kingdom. Christians, based on the Word of God found in the Jewish Scriptures and the words of Jesus began setting the slaves free by various mean (against the laws of the lands when necessary).

Because of their true hope in the resurrection, Christians served the sick during outbreaks of plagues

The bases of a free and democratic society did not even exist until Christianity and Christian writings permeated cultures.

Following the Protestant Reformation, and with the formation of city/state citadels grounded in Christian principals, knowledge exploded: science, industry, law, governance, the arts. All these areas advanced by extraordinary measure.

But what was the vision upon which the early English settlers and our country’s founders were challenged to begin this nation?

The basis of our culture, or any civilization, is built on some founding concepts that, over time are assumed to be fixed, unmovable, and unshakeable – set in stone. To be blunt, ours was founded on a rock solid Christian worldview.

And, as an experiment, it worked. The greatest nation in the history of civilization was created. With all the bumps and warts you would expect from fallen, sinful man, still God blessed the USA in extraordinary ways. I believe their belief in an Omnipotent, Omniscient God, His Living Word drawn from Scripture, coupled with their purpose to honor Him in the founding of this nation brought about the system of governing and of justice that set our trajectory for God’s blessings. The sacred position of the nuclear family – a father, a mother and their children – gave stability to the society.

Today the Biblical foundation through which we draw God’s wisdom, is being completely dismantled, stone by stone. And, the wheels are coming off. From the local city council chambers straight up to the White House, elected officials are either directly disparaging the Word of God, or, the Christians are caving to the peer pressure, fearful of the consequences of standing firm on their purported beliefs.

We look at the past 240 years and what our founders and those who followed accomplished, and we are told it is not good enough. We are told we must pattern our country after those Western European and Scandinavian nations which have totally rejected the Christian faith, adopted sexual licentiousness and are spiraling into debt and anarchy. These officials call themselves Progressives, giving the impression they lead us to progress into a ‘brave new world’ order. By rejecting the very foundation that gave us this great nation we seal our doom.

As I am writing this the Irish are celebrating the fact they are the first nation to legalize sodomite marriage. Somehow, were we able to peek into the Throne Room of Almighty God, I don’t believe we would see celebration.

Only a fool (in the Biblical sense) would swallow such swill!

“The fool says in his heart, “God does not exist.” They are corrupt; they do vile deeds. There is no one who does good.” [Psalm 14:1 HCSB]

God is already bringing judgment on our world. We see it daily in the news-weather devastation, nations on the verge of war, Russia rearming and grabbing land under a dictator, ISIS, Christian martyrs, gridlock in our legislature, activist judges dismantling our republic, greed unbridled, bribery and corruption at the highest levels, redefining marriage (an institution created by God). How can it be ignored!

Yet the delusion of those who reject the absolute truth of God’s Word runs rampant.

“For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work, but the one now restraining will do so until he is out of the way, and then the lawless one will be revealed. The Lord Jesus will destroy him with the breath of His mouth and will bring him to nothing with the brightness of His coming. The coming of the lawless one is based on Satan’s working, with all kinds of false miracles, signs, and wonders, and with every unrighteous deception among those who are perishing. They perish because they did not accept the love of the truth in order to be saved. For this reason God sends them a strong delusion so that they will believe what is false, so that all will be condemned — those who did not believe the truth but enjoyed unrighteousness.” [2 Thessalonians 2:7-12 HCSB]

Let’s get back to the “All Authority” point again. As I continue to say – God is patient, not blind. As a Christian, I have a responsibility to live as a slave of my Master, regardless the status or situation of the nation of which I am a citizen. Jesus walked the dusty roads of Judea in complete submission to the will of God, in a nation occupied by a pagan Roman army and government.

“My soul follows hard after You: Your right hand upholds me.” [Psalm 63:8]

Where would we be – in the USA – in the world – devoid of the influence of Jesus, His Word and His followers?

Do we think it is where we want to be? That’s just delusional!

Much Left to be Said

I began this Blog in 2011 with a passionate desire to communicate ideas and cultural commentary grounded in a Biblical Worldview. As the title of the Blog suggests (The Way:Redux) I seek to reignite a people committed to return to “The Way”, as the Church was referred to in the 1st Century AD (Acts 24). That Church literally spread the Good News of Jesus Christ throughout the world in less than 200 years.

I came to a point where I found myself being drawn into discussions outside that scope as I witnessed the cultural “plate-tectonic” shift. I realized more effort was being spent on dealing with symptoms rather than rooting out the actual causes of our Apostasy. I decided to back away from the Blogging world and focus on other writing and idea development as I evaluated my own responses to this tsunami of change.

Although I believe the basis for these shifts we are experiencing in our culture today began in earnest over 200 years ago when Christian pastors and seminary leadership began a slow but steady slide away from being Biblically grounded, Christ-centered change agents in the culture, withdrawing from the public square, and focusing more energy on development of the institution of the corporate church That’s when our pulpits shifted emphasis from deliberately affecting change by leading people to a relationship with Jesus Christ, to activities and entertainment that would draw people into the ‘church building,’ requiring larger buildings and more paid staff. The focus was on fighting the symptoms of our Apostasy until recently. Because I believe in our Almighty, Eternal, and Unchanging God, I lay the problems the USA faces today at the foot of the church in this country. Our Creator God will not allow His children to wander away from Him forever. Christians have been “asleep at the wheel.” Our Holy God is patient – not blind.

For example, the Supreme Court decision which opened the door for legally dehumanizing the unborn child, as well as legalizing the brutal murder of that innocent child, did not happen with Roe v Wade in 1973. That was the consummation of a process that began years before. The birth of a baby is not when that baby exits the birth canal. It actually became a baby 9 months before when the egg was fertilized and a life created by God. What we saw with the Supreme Court decision in 1973 was a resultant symptom of a culture turning away from God, turning inward and becoming self-absorbed. The current battle to change marriage from what God has ordained to include same-sex marriage is an even more relevant example.

“The real pivot point was the end of World War II. By the fall of 1945, Americans had endured 16 years of hardship, stretching back through the Depression. They were ready to let loose and say farewell to all that. There followed what the historian Alan Petigny called “the renunciation of renunciation.” The amount of consumer advertising on the radio exploded. Magazines ran articles on the wonderful lifestyle changes that were going to make lives easier — ultraviolet lights that would sterilize dishes in place of dishwashing.

“There was a softening in the moral sphere. In 1946, Rabbi Joshua Liebman published a book called “Peace of Mind” that told everybody to relax and love themselves. He wrote a new set of commandments, including “Thou shalt not be afraid of thy hidden impulses;” thou shalt “love thyself.” Liebman’s book touched a nerve. It stayed atop The New York Times’s best-seller list for 58 weeks. , , ,

“In 1952, Norman Vincent Peale came out with “The Power of Positive Thinking,” which rejected a morality of restraint for an upbeat morality of growth. That book rested atop the best-seller list for an astounding 98 weeks.

“Then along came humanistic psychology, led by people like Carl Rogers, who was the most influential psychologist of the 20th century. Rogers followed the same basic line. Human nature is intrinsically good. People need to love themselves more. They need to remove external restraints on their glorious selves. . . .”                [from The Culture Shift; N Y Times, The Opinion Pages; by David Brooks; 4/17/2015]

As this shift hit the church, sharp minded, energetic young people, passionate about Jesus, were steered away from professions such as law and politics, even business and technology, and encouraged to “pursue vocational ministry;” thereby leaving the legal and governmental arenas, as well as the marketplace, devoid of the Davids, Daniels, and Pauls who live by a Biblical Worldview, affecting change. (Read Matthew 5:13-16)

“Like a muddied fountain and a polluted spring is a righteous man who yields, falls down, and compromises his integrity before the wicked. He who has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down and without walls.” [Proverbs 25:26, 28; Amplified Bible]

As I begin again to offer Blog Posts I would greatly encourage and appreciate interaction and discussion – pro and con – with readers. Perhaps we will all see things more clearly then.
