God Does Nothing for No Reason!

pexels-photo-449609.jpegOn a day by day basis, it is probably the most difficult issue that the Christian will face.

What is it?

The ever present Trials and Tribulations of the Christian’s life!

Even as we begin to find growth and maturity it will seem like they become harder, deeper, touching areas of our life that we thought were settled.

Still, nothing catches our God off His guard!

We might say to ourselves, “I can deal with this problem, just as long as nothing happens in this other part of my life, or to this particular person!” Or we may say, “Lord, do with me as you will, but don’t allow anything evil or negative to happen to my wife, or my children!” It is often more difficult to watch a loved one suffer, especially if we are helpless to do anything about it.

Have you ever really considered how Job suffered through the death of his children and his financial collapse, for which, humanly speaking, there was no rhyme or reason? And, let’s not lose sight of his wife, who suffered these losses as well.

And then there is the point where something goes askew in our life and we know we have allowed sin to enter – or we have been sinning. The most likely first reaction is to fall into a pit, wallowing in the fact that we did wrong, believing that God is punishing us, and feeling that we have no right to ask or to expect Him to deliver us. Even when we have recognized sin and confessed it and found victory, we fear that there will be consequences. And . . . of course, there may be.

Still, nothing catches our God off His guard!

And, our ‘Abba’, our Heavenly Daddy, still loves us. He will never forsake us, never turn His back on us!

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” [John 16:33 NIV]

“I have spoken to you with great frankness; I take great pride in you. I am greatly encouraged; in all our troubles my joy knows no bounds.” [2 Corinthians 7:4 NIV]

“Therefore we ourselves boast about you in the churches of God for your steadfastness and faith in all your persecutions and in the afflictions that you are enduring.” [2Thessalonians 1:4 ESV]

“Sanctification is the Spirit of Christ in us – making us to be in reality what God sees us to be already through justification.” David Wilkerson

“Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” [1Thessalonians 5:23 ESV]

Sanctification is the moment by moment process through which we mature as believers, under the guiding Hand of God. Trials and Tribulations are part-and-parcel in that process

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” [James 1:2-4 NIV]

“In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith–more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire–may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” [1Peter 1:6-9 ESV]

In both of these passages, we see the instruction of what we should do. ‘Consider it pure joy…’ ‘In this you greatly rejoice…’ Why? Because trials make us stronger. The James passage clearly states that the testing of our faith produces perseverance. And the Peter passage states that our faith, which is priceless, will be proved genuine and result in praise to God.

But, our question is usually how? How can we find joy in the midst of all the junk, hardships, and painful circumstances?
Do we benefit from suffering?

The answer, of course, is a resounding YES!

But, how do we benefit from suffering?

A study of the life of Joseph provides an example of one who trusted God regardless of the external circumstances in his life. Consider how many years of extreme suffering Joseph endured– loss of family, deprivation, slavery, imprisonment – before God lifted him up to be the second most powerful man in Egypt. By this the family of Jacob, the Children of Israel, were cocooned inside one of the most powerful civilizations, even though in cruel slavery, for nearly 400 years while God prepared for their deliverance, as well as His plan for the salvation of the entire world.

But also, consider David. In Psalm 22 David cries out to God for relief from the pain, the struggles, etc. God’s answer, as we now know, came through God’s Messiah, Jesus, the Christ, the Son of God – and that happened about 1000 years later.

David could only trust in the word God gave him. We have the favored position of living on this side of the Cross.

I learned to trust Him, regardless the circumstances.

through our trials and tribulations – just in the past 20 years. Loss of job, business failure, finances, health, loss of loved ones, and on and on. I dare say every one reading this could do the same. In retrospect we see what He has taught us by taking us through deep valleys, the pathways we so feared before. I personally suffered through embarrassment, shame, fear, anguish, and discouragement, just to name a few. My sweet wife carried her own burdens and struggles. We found solace in each other, but more importantly, we discovered the deep abiding truth of God’s Word, and the joy of being slaves of our Master. We traveled rocky, narrow paths and fertile green pastures. But this we know of a certainty. Our Sovereign God had our days laid out before time began. We learned the blessed truth of “this is the day the Lord has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it!” Every day.

I learned to trust Him, regardless the circumstances. I developed a little saying, which is axiomatic in understanding our position with an Omnipotent, Omniscient God – “God does nothing for no reason.” Our Master loves us with an eternal love and desires for us to grow, while we glorify the Father.

The Apostle Paul suffered greatly, physically, mentally and emotionally, as recounted in his various letters. But his faith rested in his implacable trust of his Master.

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” [Romans 8:18 ESV]

Probably the most asked question of the Christian faith in our modern times is this.

Satan exists and He is fully aware that God is the Eternal, Almighty, Merciful, Righteous, and SOVEREIGN Creator.

How can a loving, all powerful God allow the level of suffering that we see across the world?

Our perfect God has a perfect plan for each one of us, and it will be fulfilled in the joys as well as the trials and tribulations we suffer in a FALLEN WORLD.

Sin is real. Satan exists and He is fully aware that God is the Eternal, Almighty, Merciful, Righteous, and SOVEREIGN Creator. Therefore, Satan has but one goal for every human that has ever lived. That goal is to get us to a point where we deny that God is who He is and deny that Jesus ransomed us with His shed blood, so that we will try to live a wholly self-directed life and spend an eternity in hell separated from God.

28 “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. …” 32 “He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” [Romans 8:28, 32 ESV]

If God did not spare even His own Son, why should we expect delicate, special treatment? And if we know God to be perfect, and His love for us complete and everlasting, should we not rejoice in our suffering, knowing it will lead us to a greater realization of Him and a closer relationship with our Master, Jesus?

At the end of his story, after all the suffering and the questioning of God, Job had this to say:

“I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.” [Job 42:2 ESV]

Christianity has the only answer – the ONLY answer! Because the God we serve lived, suffered and died a cruel substitutionary death out of pure, undefiled love; and then, He Arose and He Lives, ever interceding for His beloved Bride, the Church.

“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” [Romans 12:12 ESV]

In his Bible Study ‘Detours, The Unpredictable Path to Your Destiny’ Dr. Tony Evans offers the following prayers:

“Dear Lord, I choose to believe Your Word. I choose to believe You are working all things out behind the scenes for my good and Your glory. Help me to wait in such a way that honors You and give me signs of Your goodness along the way.

“God, I choose to surrender my situation to You. Help me to guard my mouth and keep it free from complaining. Let the meditation of my heart and the words from my lips please You, benefit others, and speak life into my everyday scenarios. Forgive me for when I have been impatient, for when I have complained, and for when I have lacked faith.”

In the Name above all names, our Eternal God and Savior, Jesus!

Glorious Ruins

The world has some pretty amazing landmarks.

France has the Eiffel Tower. England the Big Ben. USA the Statue of Liberty. Egypt the Pyramids. Australia the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

And these are (to some degree) the face of each respective country. They are all grand sculptures. Incredible works of architecture, structurally secure, flawless pieces of work. A brilliant showcase of what mankind is capable of.

That’s what makes my hometown pretty unique. There are two things iconic of Port Willunga. A broken down jetty and a shipwreck. Not exactly the height of human achievement.

Quite the opposite.

There is a strange beauty in wreckage that has stood the test of time

The shipwreck involved the deaths of many members aboard the ship. What was made structurally secure came to a horrific ending. Likewise the jetty, once very practical and useful to the area, stands as testament of lost relevance.

And yet, these things…

‘Our Posterity,’ To Be or Not To Be?

There can be no doubt that the Framers of the US Constitution, ratified in 1788, intended that document to be a fixed, foundational rock to guide and preserve this nation.

The Preamble to the US Constitution: We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence,  promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Preamble: “an introductory statement; especially :  the introductory part of a constitution or statute that usually states the reasons for and intent of the law.” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

The word ‘oath’ and the phrase ‘I swear’ refer to a solemn vow.

“I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

The President, Vice President, all Representatives and Senators, all Supreme Court and Federal Justices swear this oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

I know words can be cheap for those who do not take their oath of office seriously, or who arrogantly believe they have the right to rewrite the Constitution.. We have seen too many to name. And I understand the difference between blatantly breaking an oath and misinterpreting some action covered by the oath.

There can be no doubt that the Framers of the US Constitution, ratified in 1788, intended that document to be a fixed, foundational rock to guide this nation forward. They included methodology to amend it; but it is not subject to reinterpretation based on the values, wants, likes and dislikes of a particular generation of citizens of the USA.

“Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, . . . So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” [Genesis 1:26-27 NIV]

The US Constitution is the ONLY document of its kind in the history of the world. It was written by men who acknowledged the weight of what they were creating, and they called upon Providence to guide them. The United States of America was created out of a revolution, throwing off the yoke of a repressive monarchy. It withstood a second attempt by Britain to enslave it. It stood under the horrors of a civil war, state against state, family against family, brother against brother; and, in the end the divided nation came back together, slowly, but stronger than ever. Racial slavery succumbed. At the dawn of the twentieth century this nation was becoming the most prosperous and strongest in the world. Owing to its irrefutable foundation on a Judeo-Christian Worldview, ours is the only nation in the history of the world insuring religious freedom to all who came to her shores.

Only as that foundation has begun to crack have the freedoms of the Constitution come under attack. As the people thriving under the protection of that Constitution began to crave

  • immoral lifestyles rather than honoring their Creator God;
  • affluence at the expense of their fellow Americans;
  • convenience rather than the blood, sweat and tears that built and kept this nation strong;
  • only then did it became expedient to modify and/or overlook the full meaning of the Constitution.

The Preamble to the Constitution of the USA is in plain English. The language therein does not contain words with meanings (definitions) that have drifted over the past 228 years.

There can be no doubt among people of reasonable sanity, that when the Framers of the Constitution wrote, “We the People of the United States,” they included everyone then living and all those who would follow.

I also believe that there is no doubt among people of reasonable sanity, that the phrase, “secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves” was intended to mean the Framers and all those then living and all who would follow, and that by including the phrase “ and our Posterity” the Framers specifically meant it to protect all future generations..

.Therefore, how can those elected or appointed to provide leadership and/or adjudicate law, who swore an oath to defend the Constitution, so blatantly and radically deny the right of our Pre-Born citizens to “the Blessings of Liberty,” as guaranteed in the Constitution?baby-in-womb

Anyone reading this is included in the ‘posterity’ as mentioned in the Constitution, and are enjoying the fruit of its overarching protection.

Pre-Born children are the most innocent and vulnerable citizens in our nation!!

Is there some statement or amendment in the body of the Constitution that I have missed, that modifies ‘posterity’ to be only those who some appointed judge deems worthy of life?

Have I missed the part of the Constitution the tells us that certain Pre-Born citizens, by virtue of race (over 30% of pregnancies of black women end in abortion) or physical disabilities, or the fact that they arrived unexpectedly (the most common reason for abortion is birth control), can be denied their right to live, and therefore be executed prior to the birthing process by the very women who invited them in?

Are we as a nation, pleased that over 55,000,000 (more than 1,000,000 each year) absolutely innocent US citizens

  • have been denied their lawful right to a defense,
  • have been denied due process, and
  • have been executed inside what formerly was the safest place on this planet – the womb?

Perhaps, if they think their argument is legal, Women’s Rights Advocates would certainly want to join the Legal Citizen’s Rights Advocates. Since illegal aliens clearly and absolutely do not meet the test of legality, we could evaluate that at their point of entry. Since they would surely be considered as non-citizen and unexpected (and therefore subject to citizen-birth control), we could summarily execute them on the spot! Does that argument hold water? Problem solved?

Many people fight to overturn the death penalty for those convicted of capital crimes, one of which is first degree murder. More people are murdered in the wombs of American women than in all the death camps of the Nazi’s from 1934 – 1945!

Women scream that they have the right of self-determination for their own bodies. The Constitution agrees with them. But, they then carry that one step further and scream that it therefore gives them the right to murder the little citizen who temporarily resides in their womb. That Pre-Born baby is not part of the woman’s body. The Constitution expressly denies that anyone has the right to murder an innocent Pre-Born child.

We are aghast when an adult, especially a parent, intentionally kills a ‘Post-Born’ child. And rightly so. Should we then, however, carrying the women’s rights movement one step further, in the case of the mother, agree there should be no recrimination? The point being, who gets to decide when the statute of limitations on women’s rights ends?

A majority of journalists and commentators write tirelessly to defend women’s rights, but then are hopelessly confused, thinking the Pre-Born child is a women’s health issue. Then again, maybe that’s just one of their methods with which they arrogantly believe they can befuddle the ignorant masses.

However, on a less serious note – these Pro-Death advocates and their uber-liberal journalists, newspapers and broadcast preachers who push abortion rights, are killing their own movement by murdering their progeny. So sad!

As a nation, we have created a culture of death.

As a nation, we have created a culture of death. And it just keeps growing. We are seeing more violence toward and abuse of children (and women, I might add) than ever in our history. We are seeing that life is cheap. The disabled and the aged are in the cross hairs as well. Personal convenience and economics rule over the Constitutional rights of the individual. EVERY human life is of supreme value.

In 1973, the US Supreme Court agreed to hear the Roe vs Wade case. My belief is that the case was not in the purview of the Federal Courts. It has been proven that the whole case was fraudulent, and the acceptance in the Federal Court system and the acceptance by the US Supreme court was pre-planned with an assured majority of judges who see the Constitution as a malleable document. Then, seven mortal, fallible human beings denied God’s Holy Word and 5,000 years of human wisdom and understanding, as well as the rights guaranteed in the Constitution, and, shaking their collective fists in the face of Almighty God, ruled that a woman’s ‘right to privacy’ allowed her the right to murder her Pre-Born child, and, in addition, that a Pre-Born child was not, after all, human.

The Federal judiciary is out of control. They are accepting cases clearly outside their purview, and making law rather than adjudicating laws based on a strict adherence to the US Constitution. It is time for the US Legislature to gain some semblance of backbone (perhaps that is in place) and resume legislative leadership. Stop cowering under the skirts of the Supreme Court. And it is time for a US President (now in place) to take action to insure the rights of the Pre-Born citizens!

God, the One who creates all life, was clear about the Pre-Born child:

My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” [Psalm 139:13-16 NIV]

Whether you believe in God or not, only a blind fool would believe we are better off today with the stain of abortion across this land.

Science has finally achieved a better grasp of the intricacy of life with the discovery and growing understanding of DNA. DNA, unique for each and every human ever born, is present at conception.

“The word of the LORD came to me, saying, Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; . . .”” [Jeremiah 1:4-5 NIV]

Whether you believe in God or not, only a blind fool would believe we are better off today with the stain of abortion across this land.

“There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: . . ., hands that shed innocent blood,” [Proverbs 6:16 & 17 NIV]

It is time for all Americans to stand up for our Constitution and demand that Pre-Born citizens be given their right to life; thereby insuring that our Posterity exists, and not be harnessed with so great a burden of guilt and death!

What Would You Do With the Jew?

Western intellectuals like to think themselves more sophisticated than to believe in ancient promises of blessings and curses as written in Scripture. Put that in a child’s fairy tale, a novel or a movie, and it may make for an exciting plot. But let’s not allow such to actually frame our thinking in the real world. While most people do believe there is a God, some intelligent being “out there” somewhere, the idea that He is directly involved in our daily lives runs afoul of our arrogant, self-centered belief that we are ‘the captains of our destiny’.

One of the attributes of our amazing God is that He is ‘unchanging.’ After all, if He is the God described in the Bible, with no beginning and no end, then His absolute perfection negates the possibility of any reason to change.

So, when He makes a promise, a covenant with His creation, we should understand that He will follow through. Time is not an issue to a God Who lives outside of time. As long as there is another day His promises hold constant.

When He established His covenant with Abraham, guaranteed by His own Name, He made clear that He would oversee his progeny to the end of time – and beyond.

“I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” [Genesis 12:3 NIV]

We ignore this at our own peril!

We certainly know that the last phrase in this verse refers to the entrance of Immanuel (God With Us) through the lineage of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and David. The most wonderful gift of our Father God – His Son, Jesus – is a laser-like light breaking through the darkness.

And the first two points, blessings and curses, are getting more play today than ever in the history of the world. The reason for that is the 1948 Miracle of the re-establishment of the nation Israel in its traditional land as promised by the original and reigning owner – Almighty God

For its part, the USA has not been the bastion of support one might expect of this tiny nation. Although we could say we ultimately played an important role in the final establishment of Israel, we certainly failed in many ways – from several of our Presidents down to the man in the street.

But what about you and I? Followers of The Way are slaves of our Master, Who very clearly is a Jew. That point alone makes Christian Anti-Semitism an oxy-moronic position of the highest order!

We live in a period of time unlike any since Jesus walked this earth. In fact, the fast track of prophecy fulfillment really began at the beginning of the twentieth century. By the year 1900 many Christians were discounting Bible prophecies, or re-analyzing them in an attempt to make sense of the “tardiness” of God.

The Balfour Declaration was a letter transmitted to Chaim Weitzman, head of the Zionist movement, in 1917. It was precipitated by the fact that the war effort was completely bogged down. Something had to change if there were to be an end to the conflict and, potentially, a victor. The declaration basically promised that the British government would work toward the creation of a homeland for the Jews in Palestine. Thirty-one years later Israel was born; and Harry Truman proudly announced the USA as the first nation to formally recognize it. A day later the combined Arab states attacked Israel. They failed – Genesis 12:3.

Dr. David Reagan, a Biblical prophecy expert and founder of Lamb & Lion Ministries, has made the following insightful statement regarding the nation of Israel:

“WWI prepared the land for the people. WWII prepared the people for the land “

God works in mysterious ways, as many will agree. But, more importantly for us to grasp is that God is at work. His plan for His Creation is set in stone. It will be accomplished!

Working with, or supporting the works of the anti-Semitic, is not an option for Christians. In fact, it is not a viable option for any nation. It is quite literally playing with fire. The Two-State solution, being pushed by the White House, is not a solution. It is like hoping a rock will turn into a loaf of bread. The Israeli leadership would be committing national suicide by giving up any more of their currently occupied land to the Palestinians. The oft stated position of the Palestinian leadership is the complete annihilation of the Jews. The PLO and Hamas are splintered groups with regard to their thirst for power, but blood brothers in the fight to destroy Israel. Lebanon based Hezbollah, puppets of their Iranian masters, at this very moment are staging Iranian short-range missiles aimed at Israeli population centers and strategic targets. The mission of these two renegade groups – to destroy Israel – has not – WILL NOT – change.

Many people will say, ‘If God would just show me a miracle I would believe Him.’ Perhaps the greatest miracle in recent centuries is the re-gathering of the Jews and the re-establishment of the nation Israel. No people, tribe or nation has ever come back from so complete a ‘diaspora’ as have the Jews. And that after nearly 2000 years. God alone has the power to accomplish such a thing!

Three thousand years ago King David wrote a song that is directed toward us in this present crisis:

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May those who love you be secure.”” [Psalm 122:6 NIV]

We know that this will not come to pass in our present world. The fulfillment of this prayer will be when Jesus sets foot on the Mount of Olives.

Watch Jerusalem. Watch Israel. As goes this little nation, so goes the future of the world.

Write your Congressional delegation. Demand that they stop playing games and press the Administration to support Israel: in the UN; in Trade Agreements; in military technology and hardware. Our staunchest ally in a region exploding with violence and anti-Christian hatred is being hammered by Western leadership for defending itself.

Show your support in your local environment. Do not sit on your hands when you see anti-Semitism played out among friends, in your schools and universities, in your town councils, in your market place.

Which side do you want to be associated with when Jesus looks you in the eye and asks, “Did you support My people Israel?”

Much Left to be Said

I began this Blog in 2011 with a passionate desire to communicate ideas and cultural commentary grounded in a Biblical Worldview. As the title of the Blog suggests (The Way:Redux) I seek to reignite a people committed to return to “The Way”, as the Church was referred to in the 1st Century AD (Acts 24). That Church literally spread the Good News of Jesus Christ throughout the world in less than 200 years.

I came to a point where I found myself being drawn into discussions outside that scope as I witnessed the cultural “plate-tectonic” shift. I realized more effort was being spent on dealing with symptoms rather than rooting out the actual causes of our Apostasy. I decided to back away from the Blogging world and focus on other writing and idea development as I evaluated my own responses to this tsunami of change.

Although I believe the basis for these shifts we are experiencing in our culture today began in earnest over 200 years ago when Christian pastors and seminary leadership began a slow but steady slide away from being Biblically grounded, Christ-centered change agents in the culture, withdrawing from the public square, and focusing more energy on development of the institution of the corporate church That’s when our pulpits shifted emphasis from deliberately affecting change by leading people to a relationship with Jesus Christ, to activities and entertainment that would draw people into the ‘church building,’ requiring larger buildings and more paid staff. The focus was on fighting the symptoms of our Apostasy until recently. Because I believe in our Almighty, Eternal, and Unchanging God, I lay the problems the USA faces today at the foot of the church in this country. Our Creator God will not allow His children to wander away from Him forever. Christians have been “asleep at the wheel.” Our Holy God is patient – not blind.

For example, the Supreme Court decision which opened the door for legally dehumanizing the unborn child, as well as legalizing the brutal murder of that innocent child, did not happen with Roe v Wade in 1973. That was the consummation of a process that began years before. The birth of a baby is not when that baby exits the birth canal. It actually became a baby 9 months before when the egg was fertilized and a life created by God. What we saw with the Supreme Court decision in 1973 was a resultant symptom of a culture turning away from God, turning inward and becoming self-absorbed. The current battle to change marriage from what God has ordained to include same-sex marriage is an even more relevant example.

“There was a softening in the moral sphere. In 1946, Rabbi Joshua Liebman published a book called “Peace of Mind” that told everybody to relax and love themselves. He wrote a new set of commandments, including “Thou shalt not be afraid of thy hidden impulses;” thou shalt “love thyself.” Liebman’s book touched a nerve. It stayed atop The New York Times’s best-seller list for 58 weeks. , , ,

“In 1952, Norman Vincent Peale came out with “The Power of Positive Thinking,” which rejected a morality of restraint for an upbeat morality of growth. That book rested atop the best-seller list for an astounding 98 weeks.

“Then along came humanistic psychology, led by people like Carl Rogers, who was the most influential psychologist of the 20th century. Rogers followed the same basic line. Human nature is intrinsically good. People need to love themselves more. As this shift hit the church, sharp minded, energetic young people, passionate about Jesus, were steered away from professions such as law and politics, even business and technology, and encouraged to “pursue vocational ministry;” thereby leaving the legal and governmental arenas, as well as the marketplace, devoid of the Davids, Daniels, and Pauls who live by a Biblical Worldview, affecting change.
